Game Description

A classic has been Wii-invented and the worldwide race is on with a whole new set of tricks, tracks, and ways to play!

  • Play a whole new way with the Wii Wheel! The Wii Wheel transforms the Wii Remote into a steering wheel that feels natural in anyone's hands, while the Wii Remote and Nunchuk offer a classic control style for the Mario Kart veteran. In either configuration, you can perform dramatic speed-boosting tricks like jumps, flips, and wheelies and with the shake of a Wii Remote.
  • Take the race worldwide! Play with up to three friends in your living room. Or challenge up to 11 friends via Nintendo WFC in the biggest Mario Kart race yet! All tracks are available via Nintendo WFC, and you can visit the Mario Kart Channel to check rankings, see when your friends are playing, download ghost data, and participate in worldwide Time Trial events.
  • New wheels and courses! Cruise brand-new tracks and arenas, or tour classic courses from Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario Kart: Double Dash, and Mario Kart DS!
  • Tired of riding on four wheels? Bust out one of the all-new motorbikes for special tricks and techniques.

I've had a couple of days to play around with this game now and I have to say it is so far brilliant. The learning curve with regard to difficulty is not too steep and as always with Mario Kart it isn't too easy get A rankings as a well timed weapon can mean the difference between first and last.

The game will add a MK channel to your Wii so you can see if your friends are online without having to put the game in which helps. The whole online play is really seamless tbh. You can send friend invites from within the game or the channel to people in your address book without having to write down a single code which is a huge improvement. Surely all games will have to adopt something similar.
Finding online games is really easy and you will be linked up with players quickly (now at least). Once linked up you get to see the LIVE action from the race the people are currently in and you can even switch the viewing camera and the person you are viewing using 1, 2 and - on the WiiMote.
Having played a few online games though they are what can best be described as frantic. Way too much going on to be about the best driver. It's all about the weapons and how and when to use them.At times there is so much going on that it's difficult to follow, especially in a 12 player race, yet as described elsewhere there is no slowdown whatsoever which is amazing.
I have to say that I enjoyed the 4 and 5 player races more than the 12 player ones but they are all fun and so much better than playing a straight 1 player game.

The bundled wheel (Wiil) initially looks a bit cheesy but is actually a very ood way to play the game, and within a few laps just feels like second nature to use.I have heard that in 150cc mode the AI and traditional rubber band catch up (aka cpu cheating) is set way too high and kind of spoils it, but I haven't played that mode yet.All in all an excellent game.

It even made me blow the dust off MKDS to play online in bed.

The Wii's killer app of 2008. Everything the DS and GCN versions had and then more. The addition of bikes adds new and exciting challenges.

One of the best versions of Mario Kart released so far. Fantastic new level design. Supports the Wiimote, Wiimote and nunchuk, classic controller, GCN controller, and my favourite, the wheel. Online is a blast, and supports 12 players (with up to 2 local).Highly recommend.
